Welcome to the North Buncombe Kiwanis Club web site.

Please join us on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am at the Newbridge Cafe. You'll have a great time socializing, sharing, meeting great people and  learning how you can change "Just one life, through just one kind act."

Kiwanis is a world wide service organization for individuals desiring personal involvement in the leadership and improvement of their communities.  As a group, we can achieve what individuals can not do alone. Thus our motto and the cornerstone of Kiwanis

North Buncombe Kiwanis was founded in 1992. Our goal is to support the North Buncombe area young people and their activities, and to have fun doing it. Some of our projects include:

Kiwanis Firecracker 5K

New Course & Start Time!

Join us Saturday, July 4, 2009, for the 16th Annual Firecracker 5k Run to provide scholarships for some of our North Buncombe students planning to attend a college or technical school.

Course
This year's course will begin in the parking lot in front of North Buncombe High School. It follows a rolling course on paved roads through the North Buncombe countryside, concluding back at the high school. Course map (PDF, 155kb)

When and Where
Saturday, July 4, 2009
Race Start: 8:30 a.m.
North Buncombe High School parking lot

To Get There
From North of Weaverville:
Take 19-23 South/Future I-26 East to Exit 17. Turn right at the top of exit ramp onto Old Mars Hill Highway. Go 0.5 miles and bear left onto Salem Hill Road, then go 0.2 miles and turn left into the high school parking lot.

From South of Weaverville:
Take 19-23 North/Future I-26 West to Exit 17. Turn left at stoplight onto Old Mars Hill Highway. Go 0.7 miles and bear left onto Salem Hill Road, then go 0.2 miles and turn left into the high school parking lot.

Registration
Register online at www.active.com or mail a registration form with your check, payable to Kiwanis Club of North Buncombe, to:

Entry fee is $20 before June 20, 2009, and $25 after June 20, 2009. Note: Online and mail-in registration ends 48 hours before the race. After this time, we accept walk-up runners on race day.

Awards
Each participant who pre-registers by June 20 will receive a specially designed, 100% cotton T-shirt. 5K awards will be presented to overall Male and Female finishers, and to the top three Males and Females in each of the following age groups:
12 and under, 13-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over

Fun Walk
Sorry, we are not able to have our 1-mile "fun run" this year.
